About

Freediver, Former-trader, and Father

"...as I was laid off from my job in finance..."

My first freedive course (AIDA 2) was in Xiaoliuqiu, Taiwan at Freedive Taiwan in April 2019. I was instantly hooked and 2 months later went back and took AIDA 3. Serendipity showed up at my doorstep as I was laid off from my job in finance weeks after my AIDA 3, from a field I've been working in for over two decades. Once this happened, I instantly knew what I wanted to do.

A journey to free oneself

I have done many things in the 48 years I've been on this earth, but I've never done anything that made me think "this is for me, this is what I was meant to do in life".

Influenced by the book The Blue Mind by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols and Steven Kotler's two books about the flow state, I quickly made plans and within 3 weeks of getting laid off I was on Gili Air, Indonesia taking an instructor certification course at Freedive Flow.

This website's goal is to educate the freedive newbie, provide useful info for the more advanced diver and design products aimed solely for the freediver.

Follow me as I bring you on my journey into freediving.

"This is for me, this is what I was meant to do in life"

I came up with the moniker "Freedive Nomad" right after I was laid off

as I wanted freediving to be my motivation to see the world.

After I graduated from university, I embarked on what I've been programmed to do, pursue a well-paying career and starting a family. I spent 20 years basically handcuffed to a desk and wasn't able to fulfill my desire to see the world. Since starting freediving I've dived in Taiwan, Palawan (Philippines), Gili Air and Bali (Indonesia), Koh Tao (Thailand) and Las Vegas, San Diego and Redondo Beach in USA, so hopefully it continues to be a self-fulfilled prophecy.

I now teach freediving on the small island of Xiaoliuqiu, Taiwan. If you are interested in taking a course, please ping me at LINE @freedive_nomad. Or please. Or  click here to find out more information.
